🌱 Did You Know? - A Fun Gardening Fact 🌱

Did you know that tomatoes were once believed to be poisonous? In the 18th century, tomatoes were termed "poison apples" because people thought they caused health issues. This misconception arose in Europe due to the tomato's relation to the nightshade family, which contains several toxic plants. However, it was later discovered that the real reason for the illnesses was not the tomato itself but the lead plates used by the aristocracy. The high acidity of tomatoes would leach lead from the plates, leading to lead poisoning. Today, tomatoes are known to be incredibly beneficial, packed with vitamins C and K, potassium, and antioxidants.
